To Go with Uninsured Motorist Protection or Not

It’s a pretty new concept to the insurance world but it’s been a good move that is relatively inexpensive to make.  Recently insurance companies are giving their customers the option to have Uninsured Motorist (UM) and Under Insured Motorist coverage.  It is an option that you are given, and you don’t have to agree.  Though some states mandate it, it is up to the policy holder to choose in most states. 

What is uninsured motorist (UM) coverage and how does it apply to safe drivers?  An uninsured motorist is exactly how it sounds; it’s a driver that is driving without insurance.  It should be stated that anyone who enters a motorized vehicle and drives it, is required by law to have insurance.  But let’s get real, not everyone abides by the law.  As a matter of fact, it’s estimated by the Insurance Research Council that more than 25% drivers do not have insurance.  Wow. That means that for every four cars that pass, one of those four drivers is not insured.

An uninsured motorist is also considered to be someone who has insurance but their insurance company denies their claim for the damaged they’ve caused, or their insurance company was not financially able to pay your claim.  A hit-and-run driver is also considered to be an uninsured motorist.  What is underinsured motorist?  An underinsured motorist is someone who has insurance but is only paying the bare minimum for coverage, and doesn’t have enough coverage to cover the damage they’ve caused.  Uninsured motorist (UM) protection and underinsured motorist (UIM) protection are sold together by insurance companies so can basically be written as the same policy.  But UM protection protects you against those 25% of people.  It also covers your medical bills, and the medical bills of anyone who is in the car with you at the time of an accident, and lost wages.

If you are involved in any accident that someone else causes, they are liable for the damages done to your car and any injuries to you and your passengers.  If you are involved in an accident with one of these 25% that don’t have insurance, there’s more than likely not going to be any type of compensation for damages or injuries, especially in such economical hardships.  If they can’t afford insurance, they probably can’t afford to pay for your losses.  That’s why it’s vital that you have UM/UIM protection on your insurance.  And it’s relatively inexpensive compared to the amount of coverage that you receive.  In some states though, UM/UIM coverage doesn’t cover property damage, only medical and lost wages.  If that’s the case, then you will be required to purchase uninsured motorist property damage UMPD.

So check with your insurance company to see how they cover this subject.  Take note though, if you try and settle the claim with the driver by yourself, then you wont be able to file a claim for UM/UIM protection. So in the event of an accident, always contact your insurance company shortly after the accident.

Carpet Manufacturing in Canada  

                Living in North Georgia, where most of the income of the population comes from manufacturing carpet, including my parents, it is important to me to understand how the process works. It is a very detailed process that has evolved into using mainly machines to produce. Although most carpet is produced in Dalton, Georgia there is still a lot of carpet manufactured in Canada. 

                90% of the carpet produced today is made by using a process called tufting. This process helped speed the production of carpet, as well as making it affordable for more consumers. Tufting is a process of stitching pile yarns into a backing material. This process is also similar to embroidery, it is pushed in and out of the backing material to form loops on the face of the backing. Once the loops are formed, adhesive is applied to the back to hold the yarn, and then a second backing is placed on top to make the carpet more stable.

                A second type of tufting that is used to produce carpet today is modern tufting. Modern tufting is produced with the use of several high-powered machines. First, you have the gauge rate, which is the amount of distance between each tufting needles. Next, you have the stitch rate, is the number of tufts along the length of carpet. Lastly, you will have a pile height, which the height of the pile from the surface of the primary backing to the top of the tuft, pile height is important because the lower the pile height the more sturdy the carpet will be.

                A third type of manufacturing process for carpet is carpet twist level. The higher the twist level the better performance the carpet will have. If the carpet has a low twist level it is more likely to come untwisted, which will result in a matted appearance for the carpet. Twist level is measured by the inch, so a higher quality carpet may have 7 to 9 turns per an inch, a lower quality may only have 3-4 turns per an inch.

                Each type of tufting is very effective in quality, and should be a great investment for any home. Each process is created by the use of several thousands of hard-working individuals who pride themselves on creating a great flooring to make your house a home. In the years to come, manufactures will probably evolve the processes into a more creative innovative way to produce carpet more efficiently, but in hopes jobs will be saved as well.
